As a graphic designer for the Los Angeles Angels, 2024 was set up to be a tricky season. It was the first time since 2018 that Shohei Ohtani wasn’t going to be in red, which meant it was on the shoulders of the younger players to show fans what the team could do. Seeing as I have no business being on the field, the only way I could help was by working alongside the Media department making sure that 2024’s graphics conveyed the message we wanted them to. We may have lost a legend but the team is young, fresh, dynamic, and here to compete.

A home run can happen at any point, and fans that aren’t watching the game rely on Twitter for their live updates. Instead of scrambling to quickly pull game footage, this graphic would go up on social media along with some player details to get the news out quickly. A few minutes later, the actual footage could be pulled and posted. That way, fans wouldn’t feel like they missed out.

“The Big A” and “winning” are synonymous for fans. So, we wanted to create a win graphic that captured the energy and joy of seeing it light up after an Angels win. I ended up making a few options with different scrolling text so they never felt too repetitive.
