Shohei Ohtani: 2021 Historic Season
After another season full of broken records and impressive stats, it was time to get as much information as possible on a bobblehead box. Along with shattering some MLB records, Ohtani was setting new records for Japanese-born players. With that in mind, I thought it felt important to incorporate an element of the Japanese flag on the front panel of the box. To play off of the fact that he was setting records as both a pitcher and a hitter I gave one panel to each position’s stats, as well as using the home plate and pitcher's plate as visual cues.

Shohei Ohtani mvp shirt
This was an instance where the original plan for the promo item changed after an award. Originally, this was going to be a more general Angels themed shirt, but after Ohtani won MVP in 2021 plans changed. I had made the original post below as an Instagram carousel, and since enough people liked it we decided to rework the design as a promotional item.
The original social post that inspired this promo item.

star wars night bobblehead
It’s always fun when I get to combine interests, so having the chance to design a Star Wars bobblehead box was something I was excited to do. The main goal here was to create something Angels and Star Wars fans would enjoy, and I think some fun Ohtani photos and a few lightsabers did the trick.
I’ve done plenty of jersey swaps but I think this was the first time I did a Jedi robe swap.

fake movie posters promoting the items
While working with the Social and Marketing teams in 2018, we came up with the idea to make fake movie posters based around the promo items being released that season. Some of these were direct parodies like ‘The Manager’ playing off ‘The Godfather,’ while others were just going for a similar vibe. These were originally only going to be posted on social media but they ended up being printed as full sized movie posters and hung around the exterior of the stadium for fans to see as they entered the ballpark.

ducks night: trout bobblehead
This project was another instance where I got to combine passions. I grew up playing ice hockey, so working on Ducks night promo items is always a little extra fun. For this design I wanted the bobblehead box to mimic the look of a penalty box, and used fake fan posters to work in some Trout facts.

ohtani cycle bobblehead
When fans think of a baseball bobblehead they might picture someone standing with a bat ready to hit. Since this was such a unique pose, we decided it would be nice to showcase the bobblehead itself on one of the panels. I used the red banner along the bottom to make sure those two panels felt connected, leaving one for the sponsor, and the other to showcase Ohtani at bat.
